Assisi Pax Mundi gets to its heart on Friday the 18th of October with two appointments with Franciscan music.
After the first concerts occurred yesterday night, that officially welcomed to Assisi musicians and chorists coming from different places of Italy and Europe, the sixth edition of the international festival of sacred Franciscan music gets to its heart with many meetings dedicated to music, dialogue and cultural exchange; all the appointments are free for everyone.
Like every year, the festival is organized by the four Franciscan families with the cooperation of the St Francis Papal Basilica Chapel Choir and gives life to many free concerts in the extraordinary Saint Francis locations.
Two unforgivable concerts are going to take place on Friday. The protagonists are four choral groups: a choir coming from Foligno (Umbria region) composed by very young voices, a choir coming from Morolo (Frosinone), another one coming from Bari and actually the last one coming from San Sebastian (Spain).
The first appointment is with the performances of the Gruppo Giovane Ensemble of Foligno and the Regina Pacis Polyphonic Choir of Frosinone in the St. Peter Church at 5:30 p.m. Then it will be the turn of the male formation of the Donosti Ereski Gregoriar Schola and of the “Anna Sinigaglia” ecumenical choir of Brindisi: you could listen to them in the Upper Basilica of St. Francis at 9 p.m.
The top moment of these four days dedicated to the sacred Franciscan music and to the dialogue will be Saturday the 19th of October. Concerts are starting at 11.30 in the morning in the St. Rufino Cathedral with the Exultate Deo – Maria SS Consolatrice Choir coming from Calatafimi Segesta. In the afternoon you will assist to the performance of the “Sturm and Drang” polyphonic choir. Two choirs will live up the afternoon (from 4.30 p.m.) in the Sala della Conciliazione of the municipal palace of Assisi: the “Commedia Harmonica” vocal ensemble, the only vocal group coming from Assisi, and the “Voci di Frignano” Choir (Pavullo nel Frignano – Modena). Great music will be the real protagonist of the final concert of Saturday night: all the groups participating to Assisi Pax Mundi will perform together in this impressive concert that is taking place in the St. Francis Upper Basilica at 8.30 p.m.
The festival will end with a moment of meeting and pray with the solemn Mess of Sunday morning at 10.30 a.m. in the Upper Basilica of St. Francis. After the Mess all groups will sing together the Song of the Creatures by p. Domenico Stella.
